Fashion-forward parents who want their tots to be
trendsetters too will love Mini Mioche’s collection of comfy and
stylish clothes. The brand has opened up their first retail location on Queen Street West in Toronto.
Mini Mioche offers a welcome deviation from the traditional bubblegum-pink clothes for girls and powder-blue
hues for boys. The collection features basics in unconventional colours, such as rich cranberry and berry
colours and deep charcoals and teals. The main collection consists of 10 main colours and 11 core styles and
offers sizes from 0-3 months up to six years.
Mini Mioche designer Alyssa Kerbel was inspired to start the brand over three years ago when she gave birth
to her daughter. She found that there were no neutral colours for infants and wanted to dress her daughter
they way she herself dressed. Kerbel owns a fashion sales agency in Toronto, so she used her expertise to
transform wardrobes for adults into wardrobes for children.
The brand that’s “made with love in Canada” uses 100 per cent organic cotton that it imports mainly from
India. The cotton is grown without the use of pesticides, and re-usable dyes are used in order to put the
least amount of strain on the environment.
Also offered are simple, solid-coloured bibs, beanies, comfortable blankets and t-shirts with
“nature-inspired” graphic prints.
For the fall 2010 collection, they introduced the “Comfy Cardi,” the “Harvest Crew” and the “Joyful Dress,”
among others. Kerbel says the unique names of their pieces relate to the brand and kids, and make the pieces
fun.
The store, not exclusive to just Mini Mioche apparel, features eco-friendly crafts, nail polish, and skin
care products for mom and toddler. There’s also a shoe wall and hand-knitted mitts, hats and scarves made by
Kerbel’s mom.
While parents shop kids can doodle on a chalkboard wall or sit down and catch up on their favourite TV
shows.
For spring, expect to see harem pants, boomer shorts and cargo pants.•
Mini Mioche is located at 795 Queen St.
West. It opens on Dec. 8 just in time for the holiday season!
