Can laser vision correction correct astigmatism?

In the past, many patients were told by their eye doctor that they were not a candidate for LASIK because of their astigmatism. However, in addition to treating nearsightedness and farsightedness, modern technology now allows us to provide clear, natural vision to people who suffer from astigmatism.

Astigmatism is a blurriness of vision caused by the cornea being an irregular shape rather than perfectly round - a shape kind of like a football instead of a basketball. Today, we achieve excellent results using advanced laser technology to make the corneal curve more even, eliminating the astigmatism.  Mixed astigmatism is an uncommon condition where the amount of astigmatism is greater than the amount of hyperopia.
