A lot of us grew up in a world
of video games.
I can still remember blowing air into game cartridges before playing with them to make sure that they would
work. I was never really any good at playing video games, but one of the reasons I enjoyed playing them so
much was that it meant I got to lounge around with my friends on extremely comfortable bean bag chairs.
Now that we’re all a little older, lounging has taken on a bit of a different meaning. Well, actually, let me
clarify that. Lounging might still entail playing a video game (possibly even a board game) or two. To some,
lounging might mean enjoying a great book with a cup of coffee or just a great cup of coffee. Regardless of
our lounging habits, however, one thing is certain: It may be time to retire that old bean bag chair.
Copenhagen-based designer Nina Bruun has managed to incorporate great
style into the classic and beloved bean bag concept. The nest chair is such an interesting piece of
furniture. Made with birch strips of different thicknesses, wrapped around a supporting structure, the chair
does resemble one stylish nest, fit for one of the late Alexander McQueen’s lady birds.
If that’s not to your liking, Bruun has also designed the fold chair, which reminds me a lot of those
porcelain egg holders — and flowers.
