INFORMATIONAL SUPPLEMENT
Edge School is committed to helping their student-athletes on and off the field by taking the principles used to excel in
the sports arena and showing them how to apply these towards academic excellence and positive character
development.
Located in the west end of Calgary, the 170,000-square-foot campus can accommodate
up to 400 student-athletes from Grades 5 to 12. Edge School and the Jim Davidson Sports Complex is a
world-class athletic, recreational and community-use facility that houses two NHL-sized arenas, two NBA-sized
courts, two professional dance studios, a golf centre, a sports medicine and physiotherapy clinic, and much
more. In addition to core-training in dance, figure skating, soccer, golf and hockey, the school offers a
flex program for students training in other sports whose demanding training and competition schedule requires
a flexible academic program.
Clear instruction on time management together
with extensive communication between athletic and academic staff help students successfully balance athletics
and academics while gaining confidence.
“Many staff are former competitive athletes
themselves and have ‘lived the life,’” Edge School’s principal and CEO Cam Hodgson says.
“The student body and staff all have a common
understanding of the challenges and are supportive of one another.” Students also have the support of a
full-time psychology consultant and academic counsellor. They are taught healthy nutrition principles that
are supported by a dining hall offering wholesome foods promoting high performance in the classroom and in
the gym.
With small class sizes (average of 18 to 20
students), flexible and personal learning plans that accommodate student training and competition schedules,
and a supportive student body and staff, the school has helped hundreds of students follow their dreams. Edge
School has a 100 per cent graduation rate, with 85 per cent of graduates moving directly on to colleges and
universities across North America. Notable alumni include Joe Colborne (hockey), Mathew Dumba (hockey), Allie
Bertram (dance), Ranee Premji (soccer), Arianne Jones (Edge Flex -— luge) and Scott Lowe
(golf).
