The shops and restaurants in
Calgary’s Beltline neighbourhood will be getting a new neighbour in spring 2013, when Drake settles in
on the corner of 15 th Ave. and 7th St. SW.
The 17-floor condo features architecture by RAFII Architects in collaboration with BKDI and interior design
by the Vancouver-based Insight Design Group.
Drake will include 135 units that vary from studio homes to townhomes. Suites are being sold for as low as
$159,000 and most are under $300,000.
Jaydan Tait, senior development manager with Grosvenor Americas’ Calgary office, says thatit’s “best not to burden purchasers
with condo fees.” Drake offers luxury living without a bombardment of the usual condo expenses.
This equals more money to spend at one of the many boutiques or restaurants located nearby. A fabulous meal
with friends or a casual coffee date is just minutes away from Drake’s front door.
The purpose behind the condo is to feature the surrounding neighbourhood that’s filled with trendy spots and
local favourites such as Melrose Café and Bar and Nellie’s Diner.
If the location isn’t enticing enough, Drake boasts contemporary design and sleek finishes. Over-height
ceilings will create a roomy feel with floor plans designed to maximize space. Soft carpets will line the
floor of every bedroom, while laminate wood flooring will be located in other rooms. Kitchens will be
outfitted with stainless steel appliances and colour schemes and cabinetry will be modern. As well, kitchen
countertops will be made of black stone, contrasted against a white, European-style ceramic backsplash.
Distinguishing Drake further is the fact that it will be designed to Leadership in Energy and Environmental
Design (LEED) standards. The condo will feature energy-efficient appliances and water-smart plumbing that
uses less water. Low-VOC paints will be brushed on its walls, which will vastly reduce the amount of
chemicals in the air. It will also pursue certification with the Canada Green Building Council.
Residents can continue Drake’s green trend by stowing their car in the underground parkade and instead taking
a five-minute stroll or biking into downtown for work or play.
Drake will also include standard features, such as storage lockers and a community room with a lounge and
kitchenette.
Stylish yet functional, Drake can appease both luxury seekers and those looking for a practical and
eco-friendly living space. And the fact that it is located in the heart of a lively neighbourhood will appeal
to even more people. When the condos spring up in 2013, it certainly will be all about the Drake.•
