Mid-afternoon yesterday, a co-worker and I bonded over
a beautiful meal. My senses couldn’t have been more pleased while we waited to eat outdoors on the patio, the
sun shining over us.The only deterrent to my hearty feast, which consisted of lemon-garlic chicken, served
with sides of penne pasta and chickpeas with kale, was that I’d already prepared a lunch to bring to
work.
My leafy green salad with raspberry vinaigrette would just have to sit and wait for me to return. Of
course, everyone deserves a patio break every now and then. But lately, I’ve felt the need to stay more
consistent in the kitchen. While I love the relaxation a restaurant atmosphere exudes (really, who doesn’t?),
they aren’t always
watching out for your health. Plus, when you cook from home, there is always that ego boost that comes from
preparing your food by yourself, your way.
I’d also like to point out that eating healthy food from home doesn’t mean sticking to a strict regiment of
carrots and celery sticks. Just the opposite. Whenever I’m eating from a balanced diet, I’m getting more
variety from more foods. Salads, wraps and stir-fries are obviously less hassle to prep ahead of time, but in
the end, it’s all about which foods please as well as nourish you.
