It’s getting tougher to deny, but another summer
has passed. Everyone has their places to go as we prepare ourselves to return to our routines. Nevertheless,
I refuse to be saddened by the notion that the days are steadily becoming shorter and cooler.
Fall is a great season for many changes and transitions. As a kid, the last week of summer was always filled
with fun family activities, including our annual march in the Labour Day parade at the CNE. A geek to the
core, I looked forward to back-to-school shopping and the beginning of a new school year right up until my
final year of university.
Today, the ushering-in of autumn leaves and the arrival of the crisp air still hold infinite possibilities.
On the one hand, it is time to hang up one’s bathing suit and trade in shorts for longer, layered clothing.
On the other it means more time with my family during those country drives to the farms for apple picking,
long walks for clarity, thinking up new recipes for soups and stews, or just simply taking a moment to admire
the beauty of the changing trees.
So buck up, put on a jacket and exhale. There is still some breathing room before our first blast of
winter.
