There’s something about Toronto baseball in April
that’s majestic.
It might be because it’s usually the first time we’ve seen the sun in six months, or because our sports teams
make us so sad that having a team whose hopes for the playoffs haven’t been ruined yet is exciting.
Nonetheless, there’s something great about it — and the players feel it, too.
The Blue Jays almost always have their best month in April. They play complete baseball with energized
pitchers, and they’re usually competing for first place. Last year, the Jays were one of the best teams in
baseball after April. Moreover, a Sports Illustrated players’ poll had them second behind Boston as
a World Series favourite.
Of course, we won’t focus on the subsequent collapse that drags the team down into finishing 4th… but this
does emphasize how much more important it is to see the team in April.
Tickets are always available, and the quality of food and supplementary entertainment at the Rogers Centre is
getting better every year.
The season started on Sunday and the Jays’ opening day at home is April 12 against the Chicago White Sox. So
how about taking yourself out to the ball game?
