Who says hockey is only a winter sport?
Standing in the picturesque landscape of the Rocky Mountains, the Banff Hockey Academy has been teaching
students the art of the good old hockey game for almost 20 years. The school offers both a regular, 10-month
school year for students, as well as summer programs.
The focus on academics at the Banff Hockey Academy is on par with the attention they place on hockey. They
challenge students by asking, “Are you committed to being your absolute best in school?” and “Are you
committed to being your absolute best in hockey?” Students of the Banff Hockey Academy not only learn and
train for the game, they are also encouraged to learn and excel in their academics.
An average school year at the school includes all of the typical academic subjects a student attending any
high school would be taking. Subjects like English language arts, mathematics, science, social
studies, physical education and health, instrumental music, and French are part of the curriculum at
the school.
The Banff Hockey Academy also offers the option of taking other classes such as outdoor education, foods,
communication technology, art, music and construction. Excelling academically is very important at the Banff
Hockey Academy.
Academic excellence is important — but so is athletic excellence. Students who are driven, and passionate
about playing hockey are the perfect fit for this school.
The Banff Hockey Academy supports and encourages confidence, persistence, teamwork and organization in their
students. The use a Peak Mental Performance system to teach students some key elements they are going to need
in the game, as well as in other aspects of their lives.
These nine points build character, making for a better athlete and all-around individual. These nine points
are then applied through three phases, and through in-game and post-game observations by faculty, individual
consultation and group sessions. It’s this kind of individualized attention to each student’s success that
sets the school apart.
A dedicated staff of educators and coaches are always available for assistance. A student’s progress can also
be viewed at any time by parents, to ensure that your child is doing well.•
