Men’s clothing has
caught up to, and perhaps even surpassed women’s when it comes to style in recent years. There has been a
trend with men becoming more fashion-conscious, and because of this designers have jumped on their
needlepoints to produce chic fashion for these burgeoning style gurus.
Now that summer is over and fall is nearly upon us, most men, like many women, are looking forward to
sprucing up their wardrobes to fit the changing season and the 2010 fall fashions.
Colours that designers are offering for men this season are mostly dark like black, grey, brown and deep
greens. But if you are a man who loves to be a tad more daring, add bright fall hues like orange, red and
burgundy to your wardrobe. But, the two tones that are essential for any man to look incredibly dashing is
white and beige.
Crispy Fall Weather
A crisp, collared, button-down shirt is an essential foundation piece to any outfit this fall. It’s
all about the chic, sophisticated-yet-casual look and this is the beginnings of how any man can pull this
look off flawlessly. A plain colour like white or a dark grey would suffice, but this fall is all about
patterns. Choose either a pattern that has bright and light colours if you will be layering dark tones on
top, or a pattern with dark colours if you plan to add a splash of colour with the pieces suggested below.
Harry Rosen has a variety of button-down collared shirts with an array of patterns and colours to choose
from. Lifestyle’s favourites: Ted Baker London’s vibrant orange, red
and turquoise checked shirt; and Michael Kors’ navy
stripe and paisley print shirt.
Fitted So Wooly
It’s all about the layering: and a fitted sweater on top of a collared shirt fits the bill. A fitted
sweater is like the icing on the cake — it makes the outfit look more put together and accomplished. This
fall, watched out for lightweight sweaters with a half-zip and full-zip and updated button-downs. Banana
Republic has an outstanding dark grey
or navy blue half-zip sweater that layers perfectly on a plain or patterned collared shirt. As well, we
love their full-button
trimmed sweater — it’s an update on the much-loved cardigan with a more modern full-button placket.
Blazing Madness
This year, it’s all about the blazer. By layering a blazer over your shirt and sweater ensemble, it
will add the necessary shield from the fall coolness and provide the finish on an extremely
attractive-looking outfit. Harry Rosen’s Buggatti
navy fine stripe jacket will do the trick, or Banana Republic’s tailored herringbone
two-button item blazer.
Jean-y Bambini
But what about jeans? You can’t forget that pairing your bottoms with what you wear on top is just
as important as all this layering. Fitted, coloured jeans are this fall’s fashion ticket item. Lacoste has a reddy-orange pair that can be your choice for a pop of
colour, while French Connection has the perfect grey
wash slim denim pants that work effortlessly with any of the chosen items above. •
